The National Galleries offer free entry to view permanent collections however throughout the year there are special loan exhibitions which incur an entry fee - the National Gallery Pass available to those guests on our Art Lovers package allows free entry to enjoy all the exhibitions.

The National Galleries of Scotland comprise four galleries in the centre of Edinburgh

The flagship National Gallery of Scotland houses Scotland's greatest collection of European painting and sculpture; the Scottish National Portrait Gallery contains a visual history of Scotland and displays the National Photographic Collection as well as regular temporary exhibitions; the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery are dedicated to the exhibition of a renowned collection of Dada and Surrealist art and shows of contemporary works.

BP Portrait Award, 14th December 2007 to 27th April 2008
The always stimulating BP Portrait Award, now in its eighteenth year of sponsorship by BP, returns to Edinburgh this winter and presents some of the very best examples of contemporary portrait painting.
This year's jury made a selection of sixty from a record entry of 1,870 original works, submitted from around the world, and awarded the First Prize of £25,000 to Paul Emsley's dramatic close-up of fellow artist, Michael Simpson.
Opening Hours
The four Galleries in Edinburgh are open Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 12 noon to 5pm.

A free hourly service runs between all four Galleries in Edinburgh.
